CoolSculpting vs. Emsculpt

Non-invasive body contouring treatments have experienced a surge in popularity over the past several years.

In fact, demand for these procedures has become so great that manufacturers are constantly developing and releasing technology to help women and men to slim their waistlines and achieved a more sculpted physique.

However, this plethora of options can be intimidating and confusing for many men and women. So, we decided to shed some light on two of the most requested body contouring treatments–CoolSculpting and Emsculpt.

Keep reading to learn how these procedures compare when it comes to safety, candidacy, time commitment, results and downtime.

CoolSculpting vs. Emsculpt – Safety

Both treatments have received FDA-clearance for the reduction of subcutaneous fat on the abdomen.

While CoolSculpting has earned credibility in the aesthetic space for over eight years, Emsculpt underwent two years of research and seven clinical studies before its introduction just this past year.

CoolSculpting vs. Emsculpt – Candidates

CoolSculpting is approved to eliminate unwanted fat from the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, upper arms and chin and has a number of applicators designed to fit different body shapes and sizes.

Furthermore, ideal candidates for CoolSculpting are within 15-20 pounds of their goal weight and have diet and exercise resistant fat.

Comparatively, Emsculpt has the ability to burn fat and build muscle in only two areas–the abdomen and buttocks, using a single paddle-shaped handpiece as opposed to the wide-range of applicators that can fit for CoolSculpting. Plus, Emsculpt specially works well for lean patients that want to add definition.

Therefore, depending on treatment goals, CoolSculpting is more likely to appeal to a wider range of men and women who are looking to contour different body parts.

CoolSculpting vs. Emsculpt – Time Commitment

Most CoolSculpting treatments can be completed with the CoolAdvantage applicator and take 35 minutes per cycle. Patients are advised that they may require one-to-two treatments spaced several months apart for optimal outcomes.

On the other hand, Emsculpt sessions last 30 minutes, but require four sessions or more, spaced two-to-three days apart. Consequently, patients interested in Emsculpt need to plan ahead and dedicate a seven-to-12 day period to the treatment, something that may deter many people.

CoolSculpting vs. Emsculpt – Results

Thanks to a variety of handpieces, CoolSculpting can reduce up to 24 percent of subcutaneous fat throughout the body.

Alternatively, Emsculpt has been shown to destroy up to 19 percent of fat that’s localized only to the abdomen and buttocks.

CoolSculpting vs. Emsculpt – Downtime

Both body contouring treatments can be completed without anesthesia, incisions or downtime.

Nevertheless, patients may experience some muscle soreness post-Emsculpt. This sensation is said to be temporary and will typically resolve on its own.

Patients that want to avoid disruption to their fitness regimens may wish to consider these side effects, as muscle soreness is more likely to interfere with exercise compared to any slight post-treatment numbness you may experience with CoolScultping.
