Microneedling: 5 Things That Can Happen After Treatment

Microneedling is a popular and affordable skin rejuvenation procedure–something to get on your lunch break to casually bring some radiance, glow, and youth back to your face.

It’s, for the most part, a cosmetic treatment miracle, but even it has its downsides. Those downsides being immediate aesthetic effects that you may not be happy with.

But don’t worry. These are all part of the process, and they disappear very quickly. But if you’re unaware of them, here are some things to watch out for.

1. Microneedling Causes Your Skin to Be Red

Yes, your skin will looked sunburned. No, it’s not going to last forever. For most people, this post-microneedling redness will be gone within 24 hours — though it could be a little longer than that. Drink water and power through it.

2. It May Swell and It May Feel Rough

Let’s be real. What are you doing when you microneedle your face? You’re applying needles to your face. And you’re doing so in order to make it produce collagen and heal.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that your skin isn’t going to feel like a paradise right after the procedure. It may in fact swell. So take an antihistamine to keep it down.

3. There May Be Marks

Again. You’re needling your skin. There are probably going to be marks.

Unfortunately, these take a little more time to fade away. But don’t worry– they should be gone within a couple weeks at the most.

4. You Might Break Out

This is something that can be avoided more than the others.

If you have active lesions on the surface of your face, microneedling can sometimes exacerbate it, and it can spread acne bacteria.

Let The West Institute know and see what steps you can take to avoid it.

5. You Might Bleed

Again, this normal. You’re applying needles to your face.
