What Lying in an LED Bed is Really Like

What’s an LED bed?

If you’re thinking that it’s a great gift for your ten year old (looks cool, but maybe gets annoying after awhile?), you’re not quite on the right track.

While it definitely looks cool, as Allure Magazine notes, it might also be extremely, extremely beneficial for your health.

What? Just Because it Glows?

We’re around LEDs pretty much all of our life. In fact, if you’re reading this in a car or near your computer, there’s a decent chance there’s some LEDs in your range of vision right now.

But who knew they could have beneficial health effects?

Red-light LEDs (specifically red) promote the release of nitric oxide, a signalling molecule that, when released, can lead to a cascade of beneficial effects.

We’re talking lowering blood pressure, treating acne, reducing scarring, healing burns, delaying aging, decreasing muscular fatigue, and more. In fact, Red light therapy can prevent cardiovascular disease.

Wow! That’s a whole lot that an LED light bed can do. So what’s the experience actually like?

Pleasantly Warm

Now, lying down in an LED bed doesn’t sound immediately comfortable. It calls to mind some sort of contraption you’d see in a Daft Punk music video.

But the experience is actually quite nice. The patient spends twenty minutes on their back, and then twenty minutes on their front lying down. The whole bed is warm, and has been described as being like “lying on the beach.”

The feeling of relaxation is palpable, and muscle tension noticeably defuses.

And there you have it. The whole treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes, but not only that, it’s a very pleasant 30 minutes. Many cosmetic treatments can claim to be only slightly uncomfortable–but how many can claim to be actively relaxing?
