Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a natural treatment used to help restore natural hair growth and increase hair thickness, amount, and length.
PRP is a three-step medical treatment in which blood is drawn, separated, and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth. When injected, platelet rich plasma and its growth factors can increase blood supply to hair follicles and encourage cellular activity, which results in increased thickness in the hair shaft and stimulation of hair growth.

Is Hair Restoration Right For Me?
If you’re concerned about future hair loss or thinning hair and have contemplated or tried medications like Rogaine or Propecia, or hair transplant surgery (hair restoration surgery, hair transplantation), then consider PRP therapy. It is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive way to reduce further hair loss and stimulate new hair growth. Dr. West will meet with you to see if PRP is the right treatment to help you restore hair loss.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Patients will first note decreased hair shedding, followed by early regrowth, resulting in increased hair thickness and length. PRP treatment is recommended as an initial series of three-to-four sessions spaced at four-to-six-week intervals, followed by less frequent maintenance treatments.
How Does KeraLase™ Work for Hair Growth?
KeraLase™ is an advanced hair restoration treatment that can grow fuller hair and achieve natural-looking results. KeraLase™ creates tiny “micro-channels” in the skin using a state-of-the-art fractional resurfacing laser that easily and painlessly provides energy to the scalp and outer skin layer to allow increased absorption of the proprietary Kerafactor solution. These micro-channels allow the KeraFactor Peptide Complex to penetrate the deeper layers down to your hair follicles. With KeraLase™, the serum is better able to penetrate the scalp and help stimulate new hair growth.
What Is KeraFactor?™
KeraFactor™ is a unique proprietary Peptide Complex that is specifically formulated to stimulate hair growth. This topical solution contains five bio-identical growth factors and two types of skin proteins individually wrapped in nanoliposomes for enhanced absorption by the scalp. Together with the laser treatments, these are essential for creating and maintaining healthy hair and scalp to promote hair growth and increased hair density.
Hair Restoration Washington DC & Chevy Chase, MD - FAQs
The scalp has around 100,000 hair follicles. It is considered normal to lose about 100 hairs on a daily basis. The growth phase, also called the anagen phase, lasts an average of three to five years. Once the cycle is complete, it restarts, and a new strand of hair grows. For some people, as they reach a certain age or have specific medical issues, the hair growth cycle doesn’t start over, and they begin to see the effects of hair loss.
KeraLase™ amplifies existing hair growth without changing the hair’s structure. This treatment repairs scalp health to produce naturally fuller, thicker-looking hair.
If you choose, you can pair KeraLase™ with PRP hair restoration or any of the other cutting-edge procedures we offer at The West Institute.
The total cost of KeraLase™ depends on how many treatment sessions are needed to achieve your desired results and whether you decide to combine KeraLase™ with other procedures. Dr. West’s team can provide you with recommendations and a quote during your consultation.
What to Expect During Your KeraLase™ Appointment
The night before your KeraLase™ appointment, wash your hair thoroughly. Hair must be clean and free of all hair products to ensure that nothing prevents the serum from entering the hair follicles. You will be instructed to wait until the day after your treatment before washing your hair.
During your consultation with Dr. West, she will make other recommendations about how to prepare for your treatment and how to care for your skin and hair after treatment to help protect your investment and bring your hair goals to fruition.
