Looking Your Best: Beauty Tips for Men

“That can be translated into wanting to look as young as technologically possible, but never having someone from my high school say, “WTF did he do to his face?!”

Many men can relate regarding wanting to look their best, but not wanting to jump into injectables for fear of looking “done.”

For people that aren’t ready for injectables and laser treatments, a slowly but surely approach can work—which includes starting with skin care products and less-invasive Aesthetician services like Rodrigues did.

As I dipped my toe into the fountain of youth I started with the most basic: Retin-A every night to exfoliate and even skin texture. This was followed by chemical peels and microdermabrasions. I got IPLs from time to time to take away redness and brown spots. Then, I moved into the big-ticket item: Ultherapy. This is a noninvasive laser treatment that tightens and lifts skin by stimulating the growth of collagen. (It hurts like a b*tch, but it’s so worth it.) I had three sessions on my jawline and neck area in hopes of having a chiseled face like Matt Bomer. (Still working on that one.) If I could afford to do these once a month, I would, but at this point paying rent is still slightly more important.

“Over the last two years when I saw the start of wrinkles on my forehead and the jowl lines on my face getting a little bit deeper, I had a slight panic attack,” said Rodrigues.

Rodrigues has gone on to have positive experiences with Botox and fillers, but he has a check list for men with questions they should ask themselves before diving into Botox and dermal fillers.

  • Why are you really doing this?
  • What are your expectations?
  • Are you prepared for your face to look different?
  • Are you ready for something not to turn out the way you think it might?
  • Are you comfortable with the possible side effects?

One of the best tips Rodrigues offers is that each person should trust their doctor. When deciding to do any cosmetic dermatology treatment, you should certainly do your research and trust your physician.
